Nestled in the native bush of Titirangi, Mahsa’s home is everything we love in a space — calm, effortless and inviting. Doubling as her studio too, this could result in a little chaos, however for Mahsa home is very much reflective of her work — refined, timeless, and most of all, designed to be lived in.
Your collections always evoke a calm, feminine mood embracing plenty of natural fibres. What elements do you bring into your home environment to bring about a sense of calm?
I bring things into my home quite instinctively and luckily I have stockists who I really appreciate so I do carefully accumulate pieces - however, I find the less I have the more I appreciate.... my list of things that enhance my life: modernist furnishings, textured layers, Godmother blankets, lighting to enhance natural lighting, house plants, ceramics, art, books and your rugs of course - which sit perfectly on oiled matai flooring.
How did you gather your favourite pieces to make your home? Is there any particular items that are most treasured?
My Hans Weaner sofa is special, also my Moller dining table, Derek Henderson images....Noguchi lights even if slightly tired and beaten, my Simon James bed from 17 yrs ago......

Blending home and work can be tricky — how do you seperate the two and create space for each?
It is very hard and I think the more you relax about it 'not' being perfect the better. I had intentions for a big day at work today, a Friday, and both my children have sore ears……I can control somethings but often I have to give in to the things I cannot. I'll do as much as I can from home and write a big list (and try and enjoy the light dance across my house and drink some beautiful coffee).
What does unwinding from the week look like for you?
I just flew to Tonga and hung out on an Island, I haven't don't this in 4 years, that's pretty optimum. On a cellular level I feel amazing. If here at home, we sleep in, I eat with my children we mix relaxation with activity, I try to connect with nature and have lots of cuddles. I also meditate and do yoga when I can, along with long hikes in the bush.
